WSDOT is making several safety improvements to the I-5 ramp to and from the express lanes and Lake City Way. According to WSDOT, this ramp is the most heavily used in the I-5 express lanes system (it carries 30 percent of express lane traffic each morning).
Making these improvements requires closing the ramp. It will be closed off for two consecutive weekends: July 17-18 and July 24-25. The closure starts at 9 p.m. on Friday and ends at 4 a.m. on Monday morning.
Why is WSDOT making safety improvements to this ramp?
The pavement on this ramp has passed its design life. It is cracked in several places. And the guardrail is damaged due to multiple collisions.
